How to Become an Influencer

How to Become an Influencer

What exactly is an influencer?

An influencer is someone who has a following - there’s really no definition of how big that following is.

We have those mega-influencers with millions of followers.

This includes celebrities like Selena Gomez, Chrissy Teigen and the Kardashians.

And it also includes bloggers like Chiara Ferragni and Sincerely Jules and YouTubers like Michelle Phan and Ingrid Nielsen.

But don’t get discouraged!

You don’t need to have millions of followers to be an influencer!

For example, I’m an influencer and I have over 100,000 followers on Instagram.

I’ve worked with tons of brands like Nike, Target, Starbucks, Lexus, and more! And I’ve gotten paid to create branded content on my channels.

And that’s because brands LOVE my audience! My audience is millennial women in LA and even if I don’t have a million followers they love that I have an engaged following.

What is engagement?

That’s measured by how many of your audience actually “engage” with you- this means that they like, comment or share! So you don’t even have to have a HUGE following.

It’s more important to have an ENGAGED following.

Because that means that your audience pays attention, that they’re loyal and they’re probably going to buy whatever you offer them.

And brands love to work with influencers who have an engaged following because it’s like you’re endorsing their products and services.

BUT make sure you’re only working with brands you love - because you don’t want to be promoting something you don’t believe in.

Your audience will not like that.

They trust you!

So make sure you keep their trust.

That’s more important than any brand deal!

There’s also a rise in what they’re calling “micro-influencers”.

These are influencers with a following of under 100k but their audience is hyper-engaged!

This means that even if they have a lower follower count, their audience shows a lot of trust and engagement.

Sometimes brands prefer working with micro-influencers because of this.

So you don’t have to have millions of followers to be an influencer or start working with brands and making money!
